I have recently read of a new type of solar panel coming out that will be cheaper to buy and make. Hopefully they will be ready this year.
In the mean time if you are looking for some good info on solar try our on governments site at http://www1.eere.energy.gov/solar/technologies.html.
They have good reading on solar use and development.
